Ireland VAT Invoice Template
If you are registered for VAT in Ireland, Revenue sets out exactly what your invoices must show, and when they must be issued. This page summarises the rules and shows how to create a compliant invoice in EUR.
What Revenue requires on a VAT invoice
- The date of issue and a unique sequential number
- Your full name, address and VAT registration number
- The customer's full name and address
- For reverse-charge supplies: the customer's VAT number and the note "Reverse charge applies"
- For intra-Community supplies of goods: the customer's VAT number and a note that it is an intra-Community supply
- The quantity and nature of the goods, or the extent and nature of the services
- The date of supply (or of a payment on account) if it differs from the issue date
- The unit price excluding VAT, any discounts, and the amount excluding VAT per VAT rate
- The VAT rate and the total VAT payable
Deadline: 15 days after the end of the month
A VAT invoice must be issued within 15 days of the end of the month in which you supplied the goods or services. For payments received in advance, issue the invoice by the 15th of the following month.
VAT rates
The standard rate is 23%. A reduced rate of 13.5% applies to items such as building work and cleaning services, and a second reduced rate of 9% to items such as gas and electricity. Some goods, such as most basic food and children's clothing, are zero-rated. Check the rate for your service in Revenue's VAT rates database.
Do you need to register?
Registration is required once your annual turnover exceeds €42,500 for services or €85,000 for goods (thresholds since 1 January 2025). Below that you may register voluntarily, and if you are not registered you must not charge VAT.
Invoicing in another currency
You can invoice UK or US clients in GBP or USD, but Revenue requires the invoice to also show the corresponding figures in euro. Add the euro amounts and the exchange rate in the notes.
